Mast down

Mast down

After a day waiting for the wind to drop to the down the mast, we were greeted by a fantastic morning sunny skies and 15km/h wind.

Schyler and his crew from Fair Point marina did a great job lifting the mast and setting it down on the racks we had built yesterday.

2 more hours of snugging it down and making sure that no shrouds were rubbing against the mast. By 12:30 were were able to leave on the short trip 12 miles to Oswego, the beginning of the canal system down to the Hudson. Turned out to be a roly poly ride with mast down and no sails; the leftover swells from yesterday were right on our beam.

Oswego: first step, check to get cruising permit. Turned out to be a big hurry up and wait. Customs had to come to the boat, which he could only do at 6:30, so we are here for the night, tied up to a public wall in front of Best Western .

Definitely somewhere you don’t want to be during winter!
