Into the locks

Managed to get the cruising permit this morning so we are on our way. through the locks. After 6 hours motoring and 9 locks we manage get to the edge of Lake Oneida. As it’s 20 miles we decided to wait until tomorrow.

Had great dinner with Chip, an adventurous soul from Oregon who is using this 8 week sabbatical from intel to kayak through the Eerie canal. I am sure he is not having to deal with VHF and alternators that are misbehaving. 🙂

thanks styler for the pics from Fair Point Marina.

Looks like you enjoyed beautiful weather…somewhat unusual for upstate NY.

    Hello David!

It was very nice meeting you back at Lock23 and awesome to share a meal and stories with you. While I didn’t have to deal with alternator and VHF problems, I did have to deal with wind and waves on the lake! Whew. The crossing took me two days but given the conditions I first encountered I though it would be much longer and involve a swim or two. I’m both happy and sad to say that I completed my Erie Canal adventure passing through the Waterford Flight on the evening of Friday, October 3rd. I’ve since returned to Oregon and work (ugh!) but am very much thinking of what adventure will come next.

    Cheers, Chip

      Hi Chips

It was so great to meet you in the Canals. it finally made me feel like we were actually moving not just doing boat projects. When we went acroos the Oneida Lake we were thinking of you and it was not going to be easy. Well done on your trip. Sitting in your dark little room at work it must feel a million miles away already. cheers David
